Crown Green Bowling
Crown Green Bowling
Fulwood Bowling Club: an idyllic place to play Crown Green Bowls
The aim of crown green bowls is simple. You must roll a set of two bowls (or woods) from the hand towards a smaller target bowl known as the jack. BUT the woods aren’t entirely round and the crown green is not entirely flat. This is the challenge of Crown Green Bowling
It is one of the few sports which can be enjoyed by all. Men often play against women, and youngsters can play against older players in a competitive game.
Why don’t you come and have a go for yourself? We can promise you a warm welcome. All you need is a pair of flat shoes – we can provide all of the rest of the equipment
We offer an introduction to the game by friendly experienced players and in delightful surroundings. For further information on the Aim of the Game of Crown Green Bowls, please click here.

Playing bowls at Fulwood
Our OUTDOOR SEASON starts in late March.
Throughout the season, the Club offers a mix of Social Bowling, Internal Club Competitions, Friendly Matches and League Fixtures.
- Social bowling is at the heart of our club. There are are reserved times for Social Bowling every weekday afternoon. This is organised on a turn up and play basis, so you don’t need to have arranged a partner or opponent.
- Internal Club Competitions are played across the season for a wide range of trophies. Some competitions are played over a weekend. There are usually 2 Finals’ Days at the end of the season and a Presentation Dinner in the Autumn.
- We have an active programme of Friendly and Social matches. Please click here for the current Bowling Club Events Calendar.
- League Bowling – we have teams in League Competitions run by 4 different organisating bodies in the Sheffield Area. League matches are usually played in the mornings or evenings.
There is a Bowling Event – either internal to the club or a friendly match against another team – most weekends across the season. There are events to suit bowlers at all levels, played at home and on away greens.
Games on the green are booked through the Skedda booking system. Please book here.
The latest guidelines for play and arrangements for the booking of matches on the green can be found in the Information Centre.
